National Quantum Strategies in the making

Quantum Technologies, including quantum computing, quantum communications, and quantum sensing, are a promising and growing deep tech area. This field of physics has been researched for over a 100 years, yet it is only recently that companies are beginning to commercialize the phenomenon.

Governments around the world are investing large amounts of money to educate quantum professionals, to build quantum infrastructure, and to support quantum startups. Much of the planning is focused on capitalizing on the fantastic technological advancements, and the future success of these businesses. The race is on especially between the U.S., EU, and China, spiced up with a handful of other pioneering countries including Canada, South Korea, Japan, and Australia.

What is perhaps less talked about in the business circles, but certainly has caught the attention of governments, is the level of bad things that can happen if and when bad guys get their hands on a quantum computer.

It is not a question of if, but when, will quantum computers be able to break the encryption model that we use to protect our hospitals, energy networks, banks, and defence systems.

What are the measures that the U.S., EU, and Asian countries are taking to protect their assets? Is this going to be enough?
